Peloton Commercial Bike

2015-2017
Role: Industrial Designer
Team: ID Director, Jason Poure

I designed the majority of the interactive and cosmetic parts of the Peloton Commercial Bike, helping to define Peloton’s design language in the process.

The Commercial Bike was Peloton’s first product designed in-house by a full time hardware team, of which I was the first member.

It was my job to elevate the welded tube bike frame with components that celebrated Peloton’s personal and kinetic brand identity.

Working on the Commercial Bike I did extensive form and surface development but also conducted ergonomic studies and assisted with prototype builds with the manufacturer in Taiwan.

The handlebars and screen location were points of ergonomic investigation. The bike’s “cockpit” proved to be a highly subjective topic amongst key stakeholders, so quantifying and visualizing the ergonomic factors was key to facilitating good discussion.

The Commercial Bike was only in the market briefly, but its most successful forms provided a coherent basis for Peloton’s design language to develop and directly inspired part designs on subsequent products.
